Pierce who was given it as a gift from Sara Sothern Taylor, (Elizabeth Taylor’s mother) who was given it by Richard Burton.

Here is the story behind it. According to Mr. Steven Pierce, In 1963 Richard Burton, accompanied …by Elizabeth Taylor, both whom were married to other people at the time went down to Puerto Vallarta Mexico, to join John Huston and the other cast in the filming of, The Night of the Iguana. Amongst those there were, Michael Wilding, Elizabeth Taylor’s second husband, the gun-toting, Emilio “El Indio” Fernández, etc. This left Richard Burton visibly stressed. John Huston encouraged him to take up painting to relieve that stress. Richard Burton took him up on that suggestion and this painting was the result. Signed in the upper right corner simply Burton and attribution taped to the back. It measures approx. 9″ x 12″ for the painting, framed in its original frame, with a chip and some repairs to the top of the frame, approx. 14 3/4″ x 17 3/4″.

This shows that Richard Burton was more than just a movie actor and has a real mid century modern look to it. GOOD LUCK!!

Agreement.

This rare and unique collection became available through the good friend of Sara Taylor, Steven Pierce. In the late 1970’s Mr. Pierce became good friends with Sara Taylor, each becoming close enough to be considered part of each other’s family, even sharing holidays together. Mr. Pierce became Sara’s partner/escort to social functions focused around Elizabeth Taylor, her daughter. Sara felt so strongly about their relationship that she mentions him in her will, including naming him as her alternate executor to the will. Sara used Mr. Pierce’s office and secretary in regards to this manuscript. The documentation included with the manuscript reflects this relationship, including multiple photos of the two of them together.

It was the wish of Sara Taylor that the manuscript not become public until her daughter Elizabeth passed away. And according to Steven Pierce, it would have made Elizabeth happy if this book had never been written or burned. Also according to Mr. Pierce, this is one of only two copies ever known to exist.

“When we were contacted by the owner to provide this amazing collection I was beside myself.
