Well this is my very first blog. I know that I may be a little late on catching the “blog boat” but better late than never. We are a family who truly loves vintage and antiques. We search for treasures in auctions, estates, and anywhere our travels take us.
Look what we found on our latest travels. An Antique Blue Floral Transferware Platter Midsummer B&M Burroughs & Mountford. This large floral transferware platter by Burroughs and Mountford of New Jersey (1879-1882) is up for auction.. Marked on the back with the mark of MidSummer B&M Patent Applied For. It measures approx. 18 5/8″ x 13 1/2″. We are calling it shabby chic condition as it has overall crazing and yellowing, BUT so gorgeous.
The Burroughs & Mountford Co. began business in Trenton, New Jersey in 1879, in the Eagle Pottery, erected in 1876 by Richard Millington. They produced a large line of table and toilet wares and a number of characteristic styles of art wares, in bold ornamentation and harmonious coloring. Some of their larger vases, painted by a Japanese artist in their employ, were among the finest pieces of the kind ever produced in this country.
